Hello everyone (and thanks for the interesting and thoughtful discussions going on here) I'm a psychologist working with a large charity in Australia, and I specialise in problem gambling. Most of my clients are isolated (no one else knows), in crisis (facing bankruptcy, jail, and/or breakdown of their most significant relationships). They're also deeply ashamed (one described gambling as 'the last taboo'). Most therefore take a long time to access face to face counselling. Agencies across Australia have found that almost 50% of clients don't return after the initial visit. So it's looking like conventional, face to face therapies may need supplementing with other kinds - possibly including online email, web cams & mikes. Does anybody know of anyone who's trying this approach? There seems to be a distinct lack of research out there on online therapies, but I'd love to talk to people who are involved in this area. Cheers - Dany Falconer Flint<fsquared@pnc.com.au
