I just finished reading/skimming the rest of the interaction between Dr. Marlo and Luke, including the "teenage non-therapy" interaction, about which I also have serious questions. Although I don't think Dr. Marlo has technically violated the ethics code, there is something that makes me uncomfortable about what is going on. A professor I had in graduate school once said that once we learn this craft, this art we practice, we can't turn it off and on at will, so we should be very careful how we use it. It is in this realm that my discomfort lies. In addition, if one identifies oneself as a professional and acts in some ways like one acts when one is in a formally defined clinical situation, can one claim that one is not functioning as a professional clinician, with all the responsibilities that come with it? I don't think so. What does anyone else think? Shellie Miller
