i wanted to respond to your line about therapists with privacy concerns being patients.....that would describe me very well! i am a therapist and one reason i have not attended any therapy lately is my concern for privacy. i do not want notes about me floating around out there, especially notes that i have no idea what was said. who knows who might get access to those notes and for what reason. this comes from reality, not just paranoia (though i do admit a little paranoia).....several years ago i was in a car accident and the case ended up going to court - my entire life was subpoenaed, even my day planner. i was required to provide the names of all doctors i had seen in the past several years, the name of the counselor i saw after the accident and many other private and personal details of my life. and yes, the other side did subpoena all my medical records, so yes, they do know all the details of my medical history. many of these items now reside in the public record. as a result, i am now very very careful about what i allow to go into any records.
