    Help - resistance
Psych Student outside US · 05/13/03 at 5:46 ET

    Hi forum,
I have a question about "the" gestalt concept of resistance. There seem to be quite a few different descriptions of it, and to me the parts don't seem to come together as a whole. So... I need help.
I often see resistance described in terms of two different perspectives; "resistance to contact" or "resistance to awareness". Authors often emphasize that these perspectives are not mutually exclusive, but they still seem to be discussed as if they were…?
Do these differences in perspective stem from different theoretical underpinnings? Is there a marked difference in method? I'd love to hear your take on it - and can anyone guide me to articles or books that may clarify what the differences are about?
    Thanks in advance
