Factors that come to play for childen who are labeled epileptic may be quite complex. I recall a Virgina Satir session of a family with a child labeled epilepitic. During a certain enounter of the parents the child's seizures began with apparent connection to the familial communication/tension, etc. It most certainly indicates the need to examine each case uniquely and not locate a "disease" with the head of an identified patient. Hopefully, the ability to control such neurological activity can be learned before the child leaves home and learns the pattern for life. I wonder too, in how many case of various problems (somatic, affective, perceptual, cognitive, and all combinations, etc.) the child's learning has been accidental (superstitious, etc.) and was then established by redundancy and reinforcement that was again acceidental on the part of the environment. That is, the problems exist due to verbal or pre-verbal learnings and responses that are entirely accidental, in the arms as it were, of happy, well meaning, loving, and careful parents and communities. Missing pieces of a fabric of socialization or adherence to norm (the American Way, religious training, tradition, etc.) can and most certainly does cause problems for which we as a people are hard pressed to subsequently solve.
