I can answer for my own experience. I am frequently (!) accused of having ESP of some sort. I don't believe I have any such thing as ESP (even if it is a real thing). This just happened with very high incident after the taped demonstration at the International Congress two weeks ago in Phoenix. The demo was entitled "The joy of doing very little" -- and there in lies a hint about the 'key' for unconscious communication. It is essential that therapists give close attention to subjects, participate in your "take" on their experience (as Erickson said: 'put one foot in the client's world and keep one in your own'), and eliminate self-talk, labels, and other mental constructs as you do the above. (This is the doing 'very little' part.) This requires a degree of risk to forget your self somewhat and many will not be that flexible. As you so participate, your own experience IN-forms you. Then, voila, there is what you seek. Finally, as with all things done well, your own communication needs to be crafted by study and practice, and also, as it is delivered, monitored in real-time. One word of caution: in addition to trusting yourself, you MUST only do this with client whom you trust (to not jerk your experience about). As your talent for this sort of joining grows, your range of comfort with a wider array of clients will also grow.
