As I read about stories of Erickson's therapy, the thought keeps running through my head, "He could never get away with that today." It would seem awful dangerous in today's society to ask a young woman to undress in front of you or direct a couple to purposefully urinate in their bed, for example. And as beneficial and necessary as it is, explicitly obtaining informed consent for various treatments seems to hinder some creativity and flexibility that was characteristic of Erickson. In light of our litigation-crazy society, how do you think Erickson would operate in 1999?
