Ideomotor ambiguity

In establishing an ideomotor communication, when asked to identify his "no finger" the client raised the same finger as for his "yes finger".

I was able to work around this and know how to avoid this in the future. But is there a significance to the client's choice to use the same finger for opposite signals?
