I understand that there is literature that indicates that cognitive therapy can change biochemistry. I know of no similiar research on major psychotic disorders. There is a case in Erickson where he used hypnosis somewhat successfully in aborting manic attacks. See O'Hanlon's Uncommon Casebook for a summary of cases.
