Hypnosis to prevent Post Natal Depression
Dr. Patrick McCarthy · 4/13/98 at 3:15 PM ET

I am interested in communicating with any registered health professionals interested and preferably experienced in using hypnosis antenatally to attempt to prevent post natal depression. I live in New Zealand and our professional society is small in number. I am familiar with Michael Yapko's work on major depression and Martin Seligman's Attibutional style and Aaron Beck's Cognitive Therapy work amongst others but PND is seldom discussed. Post natal depression writing seems to largely revolve around diagnosis and treatment. I am having great difficulty finding academic references to the role of antenatal obstetric hypnosis programs, or any effective programs in preventing post natal depression. I will give a presentation on this subject at the Brief Therapy Conference in August in New York and assume that there must surely be others involved in this field.
