Thanks for the quick reply and thoughtful responses. I'm wondering if "theoretical specifics" might help me understand a little more. A few more questions for you... The Theoretical Presenting Problem: "He refuses to follow the rules at home. He won't go to school, take his meds, go to bed when he's told, or clean his room." How might Erickson obtain "sufficient" information on this 13 year-old client who is reticent to speak or even engage in therapy? How might Erickson do this if the child's mother is the only person able and willing to provide information and yet her knowledge of the child's history is limited by a drug-addiction that was active during the child's first 10 years?
