    Well put

Robin, you said: "'Love' results from the action of taking pleasure from another's pleasure..." Nicely, put. It reminds me of the most outstanding thing about Dr. Erickson. That is, the joy he took in hearing or seeing you be curious, understand, learn, and gain maturity or pleasure. And, too, if he saw you notice him having that joy - and valuing his doing so - you would become his friend. I noticed this with the few individuals I witnessed become his friends (there may be exceptions I did not witness, of course). Anyway, I know my point is complicated, but I trust you "got" it.
