Hypnosis is a state of focused awareness in which one responds to what is immediately relevant. It is characterized by changes in attention(usually focused and internal), intensity (more or less vivid), dissociation (automaticity and feeling "apart of" and "apart from") and response (to implication, and an increased tendancy to extract personal meaning). Good luck on your project Jeff Zeig
I do not have a book in which a definition appears, I am sorry to say.
