    Dentistry and Ericksonian Hypnotherapy
Dr Bob Cvetkovic B.D.Sc · 07/02/02 at 6:39 PM ET

I have just started a course in hypnotherapy - in anyones experience is it possible to help patients in the dental chair with their anxiety. I have been a dentist for 22 years ( in Australia ) and have found broadly three groups of patients ( my experience - no empirical foundation as yet ) 50% patients who cope ok, 45% moderate anxiety who can be helped 'in the chair', 5% severely phobic who need referral. Its the 45% that I am interested in eg autosuggestion, metaphor conversations, distraction, focus, desensitisation, and most importantly building a trusting relationship out of which indirect techniques can work - and most importantly for me techniques that don't involve manipulation! Does anyone have suggestions and online sources etc.
