I believe that all therapists, no matter what their orientation, should have been in therapy themselves simply to get the experience of being a client. Hopefully, the therapist would receive therapy in a orientation to which they wish to work. However, recieving therapy from other orientations would help the therapist to develop a better repetoire of knowledge and open him/her up to other ways of helping clients.
