    Hypnosis and phobia
    Cathy Powell · 10/17/01 at 10:59 ET

First of all, as a social work student and a fan of Erickson and hypnosis, I am thrilled by this web site and service.

I am doing a paper on Ericksonian hypnotherapy and phobias. I need to include evaluative research on its effectiveness with this group. I have searched and can not get into the appropriate data banks, it seems. I would like to focus on the fear of public speaking, fear of flying (prior to Sept.11th of course) and agraphobia.

Finally, I wondered how the hypnotherapy approach would differ when working individually and with families. I have read a lot about the three stages and wondered how the preparation would differ. Also, I would think that some ethnic groups would be more receptive than others to hypnosis simply because of their culture and belief systems. Is this true?

Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Cathy Powell
