Steve, Francine's book is available from TRANCEWORKS - & is described as .. "A full clinical guide to the use of EMDR. Includes 'verbalizations' which might strike you as being remarkably similar to....oh never mind. A special process which helps trauma victims process disturbing thoughts and memories." Could it be like reframing? [As in 'The Psychobiology of Mind-Body Healing, Rossi, 1986.]
The first mention I can find of 'eye desensitization' is "Post-traumatic stress disorder overcome by eye movement desensitization: A case report. Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry 22, 39-43." I have also posted on Meditation & Psychotherapy asking if EMDR is related to 'one pointed concentration.'
