This is what is sometimes called the 'My friend John' pattern in NLP. An easy variation is letting subject 1 look at (more 'experienced' with trance) subject 2 as you help subject 2 -- and indirectly, subject 1. It can be an incredibly simple way to circumnavigate resistance.
