Dan, there are quite a few books on the topic. The primo one, about its realationship and correspondence to change, larger systems, etc., has NOT been written. Here is a good test with plenty of useful knowledge to share: NEURAL NETWORKS: A COMPREHENSIVE FOUNDATION (Haykin, Macmillan, 1994). There are many good web sites too.
