I am wondering if there are any Ericksonian therapists who have considered mealtime interventions. Eating with a client seems to present an unprecedented opportunity to facilitate therapeutic change. For example, when a client is instructed how to relax and develop a rhythmic chewing pattern, they would be extremely receptive to any Ericksonian intervention, particularly with respect to changing their eating behavior. When I developed a guided behavior practice intervention, to teach compulsive overeaters how to easily manage their eating behavior, I realized that an obvious opportunity was created for addressing the deeper therapeutic issues that were frequently associated with disordered eating behaviors. As I've thought about it more, I believe this approach could also be used for clinically diagnosed eating disorders, including restricting type Anorexia Nervosa, a very dangerous disorder to have. If anyone can help me find an Ericksonian therapist or NLP practitioner that has an interest in eating disorders treatment, please let me know.
