Just a brief note. The question isn't really whether EMDR does or does not have a dose-response curve for improvement as a function of amount of "exposure." It's whether the slopes of these curves differ between EMDR and exposure therapy and if so why. This question has both a theoretical and clinical importance. If ten minutes of "exposure" during EMDR produces twice the effect of 5 minutes of exposure, but the same as 5 hrs of "exposure" in exposure therapy, something very different must be going on in the brain during these two processes. And if EMDR does in fact require much less exposure, and if this explains the alleged dramatic difference in drop-out rates in the two therapies (help on this claim anyone?), it has important clinical implications as well.
