Do EMDR clients ever have a problem with their defenses going up and they doubt their "bad" feelings and then it degrades to numbness and they wonder if they are wasting everyone's time with what they say are their "so-called problems"? I've read about "blocking beliefs", but I wonder how to discern between blocking beliefs and the possibility a client is actually correct in their assumptions that they are actually "not having problems". Though I suspect defenses are going up and a fear and guilt of wasting time the therapists time are part of it. And yes, I know you don't remark on specific cases, but I am just generally wondering if clients do put up walls and go numb and doubt there place in therapy?
