I can't comment specifically on your case here, but I'll make a few general comments. The research on EMDR is very strong for its use with trauma related conditions (PTSD). The research base is small and equivocal for phobia and panic. Ad de Jongh of the Netherlands says he believes EMDR works best for phobias that have a traumatic origin. There is a special protocol for EMDR with phobias and you can ask your therapist if s/he knows what it is. It involves targeting the first, worst and most recent occurrence of the phobia, and also "future template." Its well worth a try. The research also suggests that cognitive behavioral treatments work with panic, that involves exposure or systematic desensitization, and education to what panic means. Basically, panic is the fear of fear, that is, sensing body sensations and overinterpreting their meaning, and catastrophizing about outcomes. I use both EMDR and CBT with phobia and panic and get good results generally but not always using either method.
