I just wanted to thank the anonymous transcriber and Dr. Paulsen for making this address available to the public. Having read Shapiro's text, and been an EMDR client, the distinctions Shapiro makes as to what is EMDR and what is NOT are enlightenting and timely. Given her definitions, I can't say that I "did" EMDR with either of the EMDR therapists I consulted. I think it would be great if all potential or actual EMDR clients could "hear" what Shapiro is saying, and evaluate their EMDR experiences against her standard. A comment on Part 6... resources as an additive element in processing... I did a lot of "resource" work as a client and consistently failed to meet my therapist's expectations that the "resources" would desensitize the traumatic qualities of the memories. Shapiro's explanation of train tracks and state changes helped me enormously toward understanding that my inability to "shift" the material via "resources" was not a character flaw or failure. Some material is so awful that interjecting resources does not shift anything... nor should it be expected to. Being tortured, for instance, is still being tortured, whether or not you can summon "resources" to your side. The only way I have been able to find to densensitize such memories is to go THROUGH them, not to divert FROM them. Sorry for the lengthy post. Thanks, all, for making this information available.
