Usually therapists who tap sit close and tap gently on the client's knees. Some client's are not comfortable with either the closeness or the touching, so other options are available. There are devices available in which the client holds little instruments that vibrate bilaterally, under the same kind of of control mechanism as the lightbar or auditory bilateral stimulation. Some people have developed creative variations -- I just heard that in Vancouver someone is tapping the clients knees with chopsticks. Some tap the client's hands. Good luck to you.
