I agree, if in fact they are equal. What people report is that, at least for the subset that follows up and get EMDR after getting talk therapy, that the stuff continued to effect their daily life until they got EMDR and it processed on a bodily level. I had recent discussions with Jack Watkins PhD who was doing hypnotically induced abreactive work to cure PTSD in WWII (1946). He believes, after 50 years of doing this kind of trauma work, that the processing needs to be deeply experiential and bodily to be fully processed and released. We are going to give workshops at ISSD and SCEH (Society for Clinical & Experimental Hypnosis) in Chicago this year in which we'll compare hypnoanalytically induced abreactions and EMDR abreactive work to remedy PTSD.
