Actually, as an addendum to the above, I have actually started using bilateral stimulation for myself, to deal with vicarious trauma issues that arise at times. I am finding it helpful - am not particularly trying to totally fix the problem so much as give positive affirmations to myself, etc... and it helps me to come up with insights re. strategizing how to deal with the VT. I am also seeking emdr treatment with a trained therapist. Just was wondering if there is a particular need for caution using bilateral stimulation in this way. I guess some the idea came from the discussion with emdr supervisor - I feel more ok with using myself as a guinea pig with this than a client who I am unsure can tolerate emdr at all
