Dear Francine or Sandra: I have determined with my EMDR therapist, that due to some negative experiences with boys in high school, (not sexual abuse, but emotionally wounding), I embarked on a snowball effect with men that led to promiscuity coupled with low self esteem which got progressively worse. There was rape and much more serious emotional abuse towards the end. My choices in men can probably be attributed to the fact that my self esteem was never restored from any of the previous traumas. I have read in the literature (Francine's book on EMDR), that sometimes, targeting one general feeling can resolve multiple similar traumas. My question is, do you think I will have to process the legacy of each of the 40 or so partners individually, or can the processing of a particular feeling resolve the negative experiences I had with several individuals (meaning several traumas)? Thanks!
I have recently begun the preliminary phases for EMDR. Though I know you cannot give specifics regarding any case, I'd like you to answer my question if you could, from a gereral standpoint.
-Hopeful
