Your response sounded a little surprised that pika would express the point of view that "internet life isn't serious" but as a regular chatter, I cannot tell you how many times I have heard this sentiment expressed. "Its just chat." "It isn't real." I read your book, John, because a friend of mine that I met on-line in a chat room and I were discussing the personalities of the ppl that we chat with on a regular basis and how often they will say something similar to this when they've done something hurtful to another chatter. Having some psychology classes under my belt and having always been fasinated with why ppl behave the way they do, I begin to wonder how much research had been done on this topic. A lot of I read in The Psychology of Cyberspace I found I could relate to from my experiences in chatrooms, including this belief some chatters have that what they do or say in cyberspace is completely separate from the physical world. In the discussion with my friend I called it parallel realities...the objective and the subjective.
