Actually, I think I said that when I do email interviews, I rarely use attached documents. I do the interviews WITHIN the email. This is how I do my interviews, and this is how I've often been interviewed by journalists, people working on research papers, etc.

Unfortunately, I can't point you to a specific paper that describes how to do this. But if you look at some of the books that have been written about doing psychotherapy online, or even articles about email communication, many of the techniques described there will be relevant to email interviews.
