Re:message boards/giving advice to see therapist, etc.

Without knowing more about the situation, it's hard to know what would have been the best thing to do. Dealing with troubled people in messages boards is a longstanding problem for people who manage and facilitate such groups. It's a topic many msb managers discuss frequently. If someone shows signs of suffering from significant psychological problems, it might very well be appropriate to suggest that they seek professional help. Trying to counsel or do "therapy" with such troubled people in a message board can be a much more problematic scenario and should be avoided.
