chatting and shopping within a virtual environemnt

i am doing a project where i am building a virtual environment similar to habbo.com - the difference is i am making the chat room environment a retail store.

1)what sorts of social implications do you think this might have on shopping behaviour?

2)what is good about being able to see other users on the same site as you - and be able to chat to them?

3)do you think it will affect the shopping (online) patterns of users?

4)any other things you can think of?

any insight anyone might be able to give would be great,
