    Is Too Much Access Dangerous?
    Tom · 01/03/01 at 2:01 ET

Pro and con opinions in an article at
    www.darwinmag.com/read/120100/flashpoint.html.

    An excerpt:
"The very people responsible for ushering in what some have called a 'technological renaissance' say they are working longer hours, feel more stressed, and they candidly admit that their personal and social relationships are slipping. They say they are more impatient, increasingly frustrated, and are even less civil in their dealings with colleagues and friends—not to mention strangers. And what's more revealing, they place much of the blame on the very same technologies they are so aggressively championing."

I've wondered about the future effect of global 24/7 online access (internet-enabled phones, PDAs, truckers have onboard e-mail and GPS, and automakers are diligently working on online systems for our cars).

Cell phones and beepers represent a ball and chain for many. Is the ball being made heavier with an increasingly accessible net?

I also find interesting the comment about becoming less civil...is the net contributing to increasing incivility?
