Private lives made public

I've on occasion stumbled across web sites at which people maintain personal diaries. I found one this evening which is probably the most developed such site I've seen:

Webcam, chat, details of years past, and an online journal (the "euphemisms" section).

It appears this site and its maintenance is meaningful to its author--I've observed it for some time and am impressed at the continual improvements made to the site.

Why is it that some people so openly share personal details of one's life with the world?
