Behavior OnLine CONTROL MASTERY

C.M. and substance abuse and athletes

Hello Galen and welcome to the C.M. Forum! Control Mastery theory is very applicable to the treatment of substance abuse. There is a posting talking about the treatment of addicts by Lynn O' Conner above that might be of interest to you. I am not sure what you are wondering about- maybe you could give some more detail.

This theory is very case specific so each case is treated according to the specific plan a patient has. Plans are unconscious and based on the pathogenic beliefs or traumas they (patients) are trying to master. Substance abused occurs and is used by athletes and others for a variety of reasons. Do you have experience with this population? If you are a clinican, you might also enjoy reading the case currently under discussion in the case conference section - "Caroline" it is about the treatment of a chemically dependent woman.
