    SFPRG TURNS 30 MEMBERSHIP DRIVE!!!!!
Jessica Broitman · 09/06/02 at 11:40 PM ET

    Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Do you remember the first time you heard of Control-Mastery? This year we celebrate the 30th birthday of the San Francisco Psychotherapy Research Group! Since 1972,we have labored to develop and disseminate the Control-Mastery perspective and its foundation of empirical evidence, and to see these efforts continue to bear fruit has been most rewarding. You are certainly familiar with our many educational programs like the 2000 Ethics Conference and the popular new Group Therapy. March 2003 will mark the 16th year we will hold the stimulating and invariably successful March Workshop. Our new Continuing Education Committee is planning many new courses on a number of special topics, including ethics, the role of affects, and child therapy. Expert members of our group will lead evening discussion groups and formal Saturday conferences this fall.

I am particularly thrilled to announce that this fall Dr. Jessica Broitman will launch the San Francisco Psychotherapy Training Center and Clinic (SFPTC)! This new center of education and dialogue, located in the Presidio, fulfills our dream of providing an accredited pre- and post-doc training programin conjunction with the Wright Institute for psychology interns and a low fee clinic through which we will provide inexpensive long term treatment to the community. The entire SFPRG community will share the school as a home for our clinical and theoretical discussions. With your support, our outreach efforts can go even farther. The Control-Mastery theory, its optimism for patient growth, and its emphasis on connection and safety, has powerful implications for social workers, teachers, and people in recovery. A speaker's bureau, educational materials, and new workshops can improve the health of our community, bring mental health workers together, and enrich the Control-Mastery theory. A new staff member will work with Catharine to breathe new life into our administration and program development, and to revitalize our member services. I urge you to join me in these endeavors, and to support our important work with your renewed membership dues. Please renew your membership today at the highest level you find comfortable, and please also take a look at the enclosed invitation to our home-warming party and details on how you can get involved in our exciting new developments.

Thank you for your generous support.
    Sincerely,
    Hal Sampson, PhD
    SFPRG President
P.S. Your support is urgently needed - we move to our new home and open the clinic October 1, and classes start October 6!
