    Some washing powders are full of phosphates & so the washing water, after the clothes are done makes excellent fertiliser for bananas in particular. This is common practise in tropical outback Australia where the runoff from the house is used on the garden.
    Alternatively, maybe the young ladies are using the powder as a cheap laxative.. to cleanse the bowel as yoga practitioners & anorexia & bullimia ladies do. My guess is that something appeared in a magazine somewhere & it became something else to try. If they get a high from doing it, that would make it even more interesting.
