Thank you for discussing these interesting articles. I had the pleasure of studying with Lowell Cooper during my graduate school studies. I think you are right that the most complicated part of Control Mastery theory is to figure out how to infer a patient's plan. There is a great article on it in Joe Weiss' book- How Psychotherapy Works- check it out and see if it helps! I will try to respond in more detail later myself but all you control mastery therapists out there- how do you infer the plan of your patients? Do you ask detailed questions during the intake session? or have any thoughts on this????
