Albert R.Levy wrote "it is essential that our knowledge of ... homosexuality in males be brought to bear in this case" and I agree with this statement. Unfortunately, the broad generalizations which are presented seem to be based on clinical lore and/or personal prejudice rather than being based on knowledge. The author asserts that male homosexuals "have terrible problems with submiisivness", "are guilt ridden", are the product of a childhood in which "his father was clearly absent and his mother ... ruled his life", etc. While these views are common in some circles, they are not supported by research with a representative cross-section of homosexuals. Many misleading conclusions about homosexuality have been drawn by therapists who unthinkingly assume that the homosexual clients they see for treatment are typical of homosexuals in general. Suppose that Woody Allen's analyst were to draw conclusions about heterosexuals in general, or Jews in general, or New Yorkers in general, based on his observations of Woody... How valid would the conclusions be?
