I think the internet can pose a hazard to those who believe everything they read, and who are unable to think critically, which is many teenagers. There is a lot of misinformation, alot of people out for their own gains (and not just child molesters) and alot of people do forgo relationships in the real world. On the other hand, there was recently an article in our local paper about use of the internet by the elderly in the nursing homes, and how well they learned to use it, and how it opened up their life to alot of new possibilities. As for shy folk, like myself, the internet has been useful, like you said, for working on social skills. I've also learned alot about others' opinions and what people are thinking about. This forum, for example, is valuable in terms of the ongoing sharing of opinions. While it is true that anybody could be posting, and you don't always know the source of information, the opinions posted here show a good view of what professionals in this field are experiencing and thinking about. You just have to keep the internet in perspective.
