Depression and culture

I am interested in the relation between the prevalence of depression and culture, specifically Judeo-Christian cultures and Buddhist cultures.

Was the steep rise in the number of persons presenting with depression in the US in the last decades also seen in Western Europe and East Asia?

Can anyone point me to research findings on the topic?
