Maria, Thanks for your response to my inquiry. Your info will be helpful! Here's a little background info regarding this student: I was approached by the LD teacher in one of the schools that I service and asked if I would devise a sensory diet for this student (a first grader) with ODD. This child is not currently receiving special ed. services, nor has he been identified as having "exceptional educational needs". Because the LD teacher works in the classroom with the reg. ed. teacher she is very familiar with this child and his needs. She is familiar with sensory integrative strategies and the successful use of a sensory diet in the school setting because of a child we both work with. Because she realized how important implementing a sensory diet in the classroom is and how successful the child became ( a child who has Fragile X syndrome) she thought that the same might benefit this child with ODD. So... I have been contacted as a resource.
I have sent home a sensorimotor history (adapted from A.J. Ayres, et.al by Patti Oetter, MA, OTR) for mom to fill out. After she returns it, we will talk and then I will devise some strategies for use at home and school. There will be some discussion with the child's psychologist, I'm sure. The Alert program (HOW DOES YOUR ENGINE RUN) comes to mind as a resource for his psych.
As you have probably surmised, I will not be providing direct "hands on" treatment with this child. I am acting only as a bearer of info which I can only hope will have a positive impact.
Thank you again for you response. If you wish to communicate further my e-mail address is tgr@worldnet.att.net.
