Hello, First let me start off by saying that I have never done this before. I am trying to research something that I have only heard slight mention of. I have three step-children whom I love dearly. My concern is for the middle child, "M". She is on the brink of turning 5 and has had many issues in the past. Her parents split up when she was about 1, her grandmother died from a freak car accident when she was 3 (she does not seem to have any memory of this event), and she was mauled by a dog at about the age of 1 1/2 or 2. She has only two tiny resulting scars from the dog attack, and only one is on her face. She does not seem to have any memory of this event, she does however, fear dogs somewhat ~ even her own. MY QUESTION IS THIS: This little girl is beautiful, funny and sharp but has no conscience when it comes to inflicting pain on others. She will cause physical pain, (ie, hitting, biting, pinching, pushing down), and show no remorse until she is put into a punishment situtaion (ie, timeout). She has been known to beat her dog (innocent and overly kind, has had her since she was a puppy) with a hairbrush, hurt her younger sister, as well as her older brother. She often tells her real mom that she hates her and dosen't care if she has hurt feelings or not. The list goes on and on in terms of physical pain as well as trying to hurt peoples feelings. She seems to have a lot of pent up anger but no one knows what it could be from or why she is so mad. Her doctor states that she is probably "rebelling",(at the age of 4??). It is far beyond tantrums and fits, and I have grown up my entire life around all types of kids. I love my little girl and don't know where else to go. It seems no one wants to listen to the one person who is somewhat educated in mental health....and I feel like I have no pull because I am:
THE STEP-MOM.
