Has anyone thought about asking this patient how she felt? I remember a patient that has non-alcoholic cirrhosis. She had been hospitalized several times and one day I told her that she needed to go back in. She was resistant. I went back to my basics. I asked her how she felt. She was angry and shamed as the nurses, each time went in, kept tell her she should stop drinking. Again she never took a drink in her life. I suggest that if you would ask this patient at what level, say 0-10 , she is experiencing anger, fear, disgust, shame and then why. You just might open up huge areas to explore.
