I HATE TO BREAK IT TO YOU

Art Therapy, Music Therapy, and Activities Therapy are falling off that
slippery slope of mental health cut-backs. Almost every psychiatric hospital
I have worked in has phased out these form of therapy to save money. They phase out
good counseling and social work, as well. They use inexperienced and uneducated nurses and
techs to do the jobs that good therapists of all kinds used to do. They are moving to
the "medical model", which means a nurse with an ADN (taking 1 and half years to earn) will
be in charge of the therapist who have their MA (6-7 years to earn)...IT IS INSANE BUT I HAVE
SEEN IT FIRSTHAND. So, be aware of this problem. The psychiatric community
is no longer about therapy, but about medicating and pushing patients
out the door...THE PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL AT VANDERBILT is notorious for this practice.
