    art therapy and writing

Greetings! I am an Assistant Professor of Writing at a community college, and I like to use "non-traditional" methods to stimulate writing. For the past two years I've used "collage," and the results have been quite pleasing. I make dolls, and when I brought in a few of mine the other day for our "show-n-tell," I was surprised that the whole class, even the men, "begged" me to let them make dolls, too! I love the idea, for it's close to my heart, but I haven't figured out how I shall "connect" this with a writing assignment. Also, where can I find out more information about using "art" within the college classroom as a way of "freeing" the self in order to write, as well as any other "exercises" that I might use in class? Any advice about the above will be certainly appreciated!
