Playdoh as an alternative to clay
Jerry Stochansky · 6/28/98 at 11:01 PM ET

I've found that with clients who are disabled from arthritis or similar disabilities the use of clay becomes difficult and frustrating. Substituting Playdoh or a homemade variety for the clay allows the clients to express themselves without abandoning the ceramic medium. For some clients who are severely arthritic the dough can be slightly warmed in a microwave. The working of the warmed clay actually is easier on the hands of such clients. The medium is also readily paintable to further the expressive release. Jerry Stochansky
