I am a first grade teacher who will be using a collection of art reproductions in art books for children this year. I am concerned aobut the reaction from the conservative parent community. Some fine pieces of art (line drawings by Matisse and Picasso, Mary Cassatt pieces, Gaugin, Michaelangelo) have nudity in them. I have spent a great deal of time searching the ERIC database for abstacts or articles about how children view the body in examples of fine art without any success.
I am desperately seeking for an article or two which will demonstrate that it is healthy for children to view the body as the body and not something that is tabboo or something that needs to be hidden and ashamed of. Do you have any idea where I could obtain somehting like this?
Thanks for your help. I know I am tackling something that is deep seated in our society and domething that society has been dealing with for quite a while.
Thanks for your help,
Sincerely,
Neal Rosenlbum nrose757@concentric.net
