self portrait as a research methodology

does any one know of any research projects which have used self portrait as a discreet research methodology? A master's student in our faculty is currently considering a research project to examine the self perception/image of people with epilepsy. She is contemplating using self portrait as a method and would like to know of other research projects that have discussed the use of this method.
