A very interesting observation, David. I've always been intrigued by the idea that typed text in CMC feels (perhaps unconsciously) like an extension of one's own inner world of thoughts and feelings. So, in a sense, chatting online becomes intermixed with the inner dialogues within one's mind. And so it would seem like a lot more was said than was actually typed.... Then again, if we recorded a ftf conversation and later read it over, we might come to the same conclusion that it seemed like there was a lot more going on than the recording indicated. Visual/auditory cues do enhance the meaning.
